Ian Ziering and Tara Reid are going to have to get their hands on some shark repellent someday soon. According to Variety, SyFy has greenlit a fifth Sharknado film. Both Ziering and Reid will return for the latest installment, which has no official title at this time.

According to the film's synopsis,

In “Sharknado 5,” with much of North America lying in ruins, the rest of the world braces for a global sharknado. Fin Shepard (Ziering) and his family must put a stop to this disaster before Earth is obliterated.

"Sharknado 5" follows in the wake of "Sharknado," "Sharknado 2: The Second One," "Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!" and "Sharknado: The 4th Awakens." As such, this fifth installment will likely get a similarly tongue-in-cheek title, but it has not yet been announced.

As evidenced in the synopsis, "Sharknado 5" will widen the scope of the franchise. The first "Sharknado" took place in Los Angeles and the second in New York, while the third film followed a Sharknado down the East Coast. The last installment, "The 4th Awakens," made Sharknados a national crisis. Now, in "Sharknado 5," the entire planet will be impacted. To match its global setting, "Sharknado 5" plans to film in more than five countries, including the U.K. and Australia.

Directed by Anthony C. Ferrante, "Sharknado 5" does not yet have a release date or an official title. Scotty Mullen is on board to pen the script.
