At the end of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Wong (Benedict Wong) brought the movie's titular hero and his best friend, Katy (Awkwafina), to a meeting with Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson). A VFX supervisor for the film has now revealed where Bruce was during that scene.

In an interview with Variety, VFX supervisor Sean Walker revealed the entire sequence took four days to come up with and was the first time he'd ever done holographic effects. Putting the scene together required combining footage of Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), Awakwafina and Wong with the other two actors. That's when Walker explained Banner was "in his own laboratory" during the scene.

Originally played by Edward Norton, Bruce Banner first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008's The Incredible Hulk. Following that appearance, Norton stepped away from the role. Ruffalo then made his debut as Hulk in 2012's The Avengers. Since then, Ruffalo's Banner has played a key role in all four Avengers films and in 2017's Thor: Ragnarok.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Banner first appeared in 1962's The Incredible Hulk #1. After being exposed to gamma rays, Banner transforms into an incredibly powerful being called the Hulk. Over the years, Banner and the Hulk have played a key role in some of Marvel's most beloved stories, and the character has appeared in live-action and animation on numerous occasions.

Released in 2021, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings followed the titular hero as he faced off against his father, Wenwu (Tony Leung), in an attempt to prevent him from unknowingly releasing the Dweller-in-Darkness, an ancient soul eater. The movie performed well both critically and commercially. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which holds a 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, earned more than $432 million at the worldwide box office despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and no release in China, one of the biggest markets for movies in the world.

Banner's next confirmed appearance is in Disney+'s upcoming She-Hulk series, which is scheduled for sometime in 2022. The series, which stars Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk, will run for ten episodes. In addition to Maslany and Ruffalo, She-Hulk stars Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/Abomination and Jameela Jamil as Titania.
