Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu mocked Warner Bros. following the abrupt cancellation of Batgirl and Scoob!: Holiday Haunt.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe star took to Twitter to throw shade at the company, parodying the situation with a fake Disney film. "I'm sorry to inform you guys that Disney has decided to scrap the Shang-Chi Holiday Special due to quality control concerns," wrote Liu. "I had already filmed the entire thing. I even designed an all-gingerbread Ta Lo. RIP Shang Chi and the Legend of the TEEEN GOLDEN RIIIIINGS." Many fans praised the actor for calling out Warner Bros. while others interpreted the tweet as mocking Batgirl's sudden termination.

Warner Bros. made waves in August 2022 when it confirmed that neither Batgirl nor Scoob!: Holiday Haunt would be released in theaters or on HBO Max. While several reports suggested that the reason behind the cancellation was the low quality of the production, the studio responded that the cause is rooted in a general restructuring of Warner Bros.' slate. "The decision to not release Batgirl reflects our leadership’s strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max," Warner Bros. said.

In terms of Batgirl, the film's cast and crew were reportedly not made aware of the cancellation ahead of the official announcement. Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah noted that while they're disappointed that audiences won't get to see the final movie, they're proud of the work they completed. "In any case, as huge fans of Batman since we were little kids, it was a privilege and an honor to have been a part of the DCEU, even if it was for a brief moment. Batgirl For Life," wrote the directors.

As for Liu, the actor joined the MCU in later 2021, starring in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The film proved to be a massive success, earning rave reviews from both fans and critics who praised its powerful performances and heartfelt story. While it's currently unknown when Liu will next appear in the sprawling on-screen superhero universe, his debut suggested that he will soon be joining forces with the Avengers in some capacity.
