May marks the beginning of Asian Heritage Month, and to celebrate, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu posted a heartfelt message online."This #AsianHeritageMonth it is more critical than ever to celebrate our culture, recognize our triumphs and to stand in solidarity against anti-Asian discrimination," Liu tweeted. "I'm so incredibly proud of my family history that spans from China to Canada. We are immigrants and dreamers."RELATED: Shang-Chi: How the Next MCU Superstar Joined the Avengers

Liu previously penned a passionate op-ed piece in the wake of recent anti-Asian attacks, where he discussed his disappointment with the current situation and how Asian immigrants are treated with a lack of empathy. He was joined by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alum Chloe Bennett and other Asian American stars in discussing how anti-Asian racism fed into a deadly shooting in Georgia.

Liu will star as the titular Master of Kung Fu in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which pits Shang-Chi against a legion of foes including his father Wenwu -- who leads the Ten Rings and has been called many names, including "The Mandarin." The first official trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was released during Liu's birthday.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Daniel Callaham, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings stars Simu Liu, Tony Leung, Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh, Jiang Nan, Meng'er Zhang. Ronny Cheng, Fala Chen and Jiang Len. The film arrives in theaters Sept. 3.
