Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduced fans to many new characters, both heroes and villains alike, and one evil henchman is apparently more important to the Marvel Cinematic Universe than one might expect.

Speaking with Screen Rant, actor Florian Munteanu explained how "there's a lot of background story that hasn't been told yet" about his character Razor Fist. While Razor Fist is one of the many henchmen for the Ten Rings organization and Wenwu/the Mandarin (Tony Leung), he obviously stands out. This might be because the character's fighting style, which draws on Munteanu's former career as a heavyweight boxer, is noticeably different from the kung fu and other martial arts featured throughout the majority of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Or, it might be because he has a glowing machete for an arm.

According to the actor, Razor Fist will have future appearances in the MCU. "Oh yeah, that was always the plan, to give him a much more important role," Munteanu said. "And we'll see where that leads. There's a lot of background story that hasn't been told yet because obviously, this is an origin story about Shang-Chi. So we'll see what happens in the future with Razor Fist in the MCU."  This statement is bolstered by a scene in the film that promises "The Ten Rings will return."

Razor Fist won't be the first MCU character who initially appeared as a background player but was eventually given a more substantial role. Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), for example, originally played minor roles in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, but as of The Falcon and Winter Soldier, she is on track to become one of the more devious and dangerous villains in the MCU.

While Munteanu has been tight-lipped about whether Razor Fist's next appearance will be in a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings or another MCU property, fans have already begun speculating about where the character will show up next. Some have expressed a desire to see the story of how Razor Fist received his iconic weapon and joined the Ten Rings organization.

Moreover, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings didn't just introduce a whole host of new and intriguing characters to the MCU; it also brought back several characters that hadn't been seen in a while, including Ben Kingsley's Trevor Slattery and Tim Roth's Abomination. The film also features another appearance by Klev the Street Vendor, who originally camoed in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is currently available exclusively in theaters.
