Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has a semi-official runtime.

Cinemark's website listed the film as being two hours and twelve minutes or 132 minutes long ahead of its scheduled theatrical release in September. That puts Shang-Chi in the same ballpark as Marvel Cinematic Universe movies like 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming (133 minutes) and 2018's Black Panther (134 minutes). It's also well ahead of the runtimes for a number of earlier solo MCU character films, including 2015's Ant-Man (117 minutes) and 2016's Doctor Strange (115 minutes).

Simu Liu (Kim's Convenience) stars in Shang-Chi as the titular character, a skilled martial artist who's living a quiet life in San Francisco when his father Wenwu/The Mandarin (Tony Leung), the leader of the Ten Rings organization, re-enters his world, forcing Shang-Chi to confront the past he left behind. The film marks the Shang-Chi character's debut in the MCU, as well as the first movie in the franchise to feature an Asian-American protagonist. Shang-Chi's main cast and crew is similarly composed of Asian or Asian-American talent, including director Destin Daniel Cretton (Just Mercy) and screenwriter Dave Callaham (2014's Godzilla, Wonder Woman 1984).

Along with being a landmark MCU film for its representation on and off-screen, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings features some old faces from other movies in the franchise, including Doctor Strange's Benedict Wong as the sorcerer Wong and the Abomination from 2008's The Incredible Hulk. It also serve as the introduction to the MCU's real Mandarin after the villain's infamous fake-out reveal in 2013's Iron Man 3.

Shang-Chi saw its release date pushed back multiple times in response to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic before landing on its current spot. Although the U.S. box office has seen diminished returns in recent weeks as moviegoers stay at home over concerns about the spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant, Disney is tentatively sticking with its plan to release the film in theaters exclusively before it begins streaming. That would be a change from the studio's other major releases this year, which debuted day and date in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access.

Among those joining Liu and the aforementioned names in the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings cast are Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh, Fala Chen and Florian Munteanu. The film opens in theaters on Sept. 3.
