Shang-Chi is renowned as one of the best fighters in the Marvel Universe. The MCU star's hand-to-hand skills are unparalleled, as are his abilities with a weapon. Of course, when Iron Man gave Shang-Chi a high-tech arsenal, his skills were amplified to a whole new level.
When Shang-Chi first joined the Avengers, Iron Man immediately began talking to him about creating some high-tech weaponry. Tony Stark was fascinated by the idea of blending Shang-Chi's traditional fighting style with new, high-tech weapons. Shang-Chi was hesitant since he didn't see the need for weapons beyond his fists and his feet. Things changed, however, in 2013's Avengers #11, by Jonathan Hickman, Mike Deodato, Frank Martin and VC's Cory Petit. In this issue, Shang and his fellow Avengers went on a mission to Macau, where they tried to uncover information about A.I.M.
There, Shang-Chi ran into an organization called Chimera, with whom he got into a big brawl. During the fight, Shang-Chi pulled out a pair of electrified nunchaku, designed by Stark. The weapon was super effective, as Shang-Chi scattered his enemies with one blow. This pair of nunchaku was incredibly impressive, blending Shang-Chi's traditional fighting style with Iron Man's high-tech weaponry, just like Stark suggested. The weapon was a great help, as Shang-Chi was able to defeat his opponents and discover that A.I.M. was trying to buy an army of assassins.
While the electrified nunchaku were impressive, these weren't the only weapons that Stark created for Shang-Chi. In 2013's Avengers #20, by Jonathan Hickman, Leinil Francis Yu, Gerry Alanguilan, David Cureil and VC's Cory Petit, that Shang-Chi utilized a pair of energy projecting gauntlets. During "Infinity," several of Shang's fellow Avengers were captured by the Builders. Shang-Chi led a rescue team to save his teammates, wielding these energy gauntlets as he did so. Using the gauntlets, Shang-Chi blasted a hole straight through an Aleph, one of the Builders' alien robots. Once again, this was an impressive display, combining Shang-Chi's fighting skills with some powerful technology. With the help of Tony Stark's technology, Shang-Chi was able to take his abilities into space, becoming a big help to his fellow Avengers.
However, the most impressive weapon Shang-Chi used during his time on the Avengers are Pym Particles. While Pym Particles might not seem like lethal weapons, they're still technological advancements that Shang used to enhance his fighting ability. Shang-Chi used Pym Particles in 2014's Avengers World #14, by Nick Spencer, Marco Checchetto, Andres Mossa and VC's Joe Caramagna. At this point, Shang-Chi had gone to Madripoor, where the Gorgon performed a ritual that raised a slumbering dragon beneath the country.
Fortunately, S.H.I.E.L.D. delivered a shipment of Pym Particles, which Shang-Chi used to grow to an enormous size and face off against the dragon. Shang-Chi delivered blow upon smashing blow to the dragon in his giant size, using his many existing skills with the assistance of Pym Particles. With the combination of Pym Particles and his martial arts skills, Shang-Chi ended up defeating the dragon.
Overall, the weapons Shang-Chi employed while on the Avengers show how well the martial artist adapted to his surroundings. While on the Avengers, Shang-Chi faced some strange threats, like aliens, giant dragons and several other anomalies. As the enemies he faced changed, Shang-Chi needed to adapt to these growing threats. Fortunately, Tony Stark knew just what Shang-Chi needed to thrive.
