WARNING: The following contains minor spoilers for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, in theaters now.

Shang-Chi producer Jonathan Schwartz spoke about why the new Marvel film doesn't dwell on the Blip.

Schwartz spoke to The Direct and touched on the reasoning behind mentioning the Blip but not lingering on the fallout of it as previous post-Avengers: Endgame MCU entries have done. "I think the idea was that we wanted to orient the audiences so that people know the movie is taking place after Endgame, but we also don’t want to dwell on the events of Endgame too much," Schwartz said. "There’s so much story to tell with Shang-Chi, there’s so much to get the audiences into that’s unique to this movie, that we wanted to keep people’s heads in the story that was unfolding before them, and not then how it related to stories that have already been told."

Unlike The Falcon and the Winter SoldierWandaVision, and Spider-Man: Far From Home, the Blip and Thanos don't heavily factor into Shang-Chi's story. As Schwartz mentions, the origin story had a lot to do in terms of introducing the character and his world and setting up an entirely new corner of the MCU. But that doesn't mean the movie ignores the Snap.

At one point, the characters pass posters about post-Blip anxiety. At dinner with friends, Shang-Chi and Katy are shamed about their valet jobs and told that after half the world disappeared, they should pursue other interests. The mid-credits scene also features Captain Marvel and Wong as primary Avengers, the former of which has a new suit. Bruce Banner also appears with his arm in a sling, the clearest indication that the film follows the events of Endgame, though interestingly he's no longer in his Professor Hulk form.

The film, however, does leave plenty of questions up in the air. It doesn't confirm whether any of the main characters disappeared following Thanos' actions, though it ultimately doesn't seem to affect the story. While the fallout of Endgame had lasting impacts on the worlds of Peter Parker, Sam Wilson, Monica Rambeau, and others, it doesn't appear to be a primary concern for Shang-Chi and his friends and family.

Shang-Chi is out now in theaters.
