Don't be dismayed by the lack of updates about "Iron Man 3" director Shane Black's planned "Predator" sequel. Franchise producer John Davis assure that not only is the film still happening, it's "genius."

Black, who appeared in the 1987 original, signed on in June 2014 to helm the sequel, based on a script he co-wrote with his "Monster Squad" collaborator Fred Dekker. Although initial reports indicated it would be a reboot of the Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi action film, Black immediately set the record straight, describing the project as "an inventive sequel."

Speaking with Collider during the Television Critics Association spotlight on NBC's "The Player," Davis backed up that characterization, saying, "I’ve read a lot of his script and I think it’s genius. I think it’s genius and I think it’s entertaining, and what it did is recreate a famous franchise in a different, interesting way; looking at it from a different light."

He heaped praise upon Black and Dekker, adding, "the writing is so fresh, the perspective is so fresh."

"I’m telling you, you’re going to get something you don’t expect and you’re going to say, ‘This is the most entertaining way to reinvent a franchise.’ I mean he’s the guy who wrote 'Iron Man 3.'”
