Shane Black Set to Direct New Remo Williams Movie ‘The Destroyer’

Remo Williams is on his way back to the big screen! Deadline reports that Iron Man 3 director Shane Black has signed on to helm a new film based on the character as seen in the novel series The Destroyer.

The first Destroyer book, written by Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir, hit stands in 1971, and followed the adventures of Williams, a New Jersey cop framed for a crime and sentenced to the electric chair. When the execution fails, he’s recruited into a secret government organization called CURE. There he met Chiun, an assassin who trained the new agent.

“Shane has been a fan of the original Destroyer book series since its inception and he has an incredible vision for this film,” said Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven, who’s producing Batman v Superman. “[We] couldn’t be more fortunate to be working with this talented director on this material. The narrative Jim and James have created is incredibly rich and while it’s a story rooted in adventure, it is also very much character driven.”

Jim Uhls (Fight Club) co-wrote the film with James Mullaney, who penned several books in the Destroyer series. Guy Hamilton directed the offbeat 1985 film Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, which starred Fred Ward, Joel Grey, Wilford Brimley and Kate Mulgrew.

Black most recently directed Iron Man 3, but also has a variety of other projects in the works, including penning the next film in the Predator franchise and helming the Doc Savage movie.
