Shaft Is An Equal Opportunity Ass-Whooper in First Trailer

Although it's been 19 years since we last saw Shaft on the big screen, the trailer in the new installment of the franchise will add family to the mix of action, humor and smooth romance.

Director Tim Story's hybrid reboot/sequel features three generations, with Jessie Usher playing son JJ, Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as John Shaft from the 2000 film, and Richard Roundtree reprising his role as the original Shaft.

JJ, aka John Shaft Jr., is a cyber-security expert for the FBI with a degree from MIT, but when his best friend dies under mysterious circumstances, he needs to take an approach that only his absent father John Shaft can instruct. The legendary locked-and-loaded detective agrees to help his son navigate Harlem's criminal underworld in order to get answers. while pursuing his own agenda: a score to settle that's both professional and personal. Although JJ's FBI background may clash with his father's trademark violence, there's no denying family when you really need them, especially when it's time to break windows. With Issac Hayes' iconic theme song in the background, and references to the 1970s film that started it all, the movie promises that any member of the Shaft family is still one bad mother-- shut yo mouth.
