Arrow: Shadowhunters' Katherine McNamara Joins Show as Buffy-esque Character

Shadowhunters star Katherine McNamara will join the cast of Arrow in a recurring role for the CW show's upcoming seventh season.

According to TV Line, McNamara will portray a character named Maya throughout the first half of Arrow Season 7. Hailing from the Green Arrow's hometown of Star City, Maya is described as being both a thief and street fighter. Additionally, the original (albeit unofficial) casting notice for Maya draws a comparison to a certain beloved television character, dubbing her "Buffy the Superhero Slayer."

McNamara confirmed her involvement with the show via her Instagram. "THRILLED to finally be able to share this news," she wrote. "So excited to be joining [Arrow]."

In addition to her lead role in Shadowhunters, McNamara has also appeared in such shows as The Fosters, Happyland and Workaholics, as well as such films as Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, Maze Runner: The Death Cure and IndiscrecionShadowhunters is set to end after its upcoming third season.

Returning on Monday, October 15 at 8 pm ET/PT for its seventh season on The CW, Arrow stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak, Rick Gonzalez as Wild Dog, Echo Kellum as Mr. Terrific, Juliana Harkavy as Black Canary, and Katie Cassidy as Black Siren.
