A new trailer for Shadow of the Tomb Raider has Lara Croft going dark, and questioning her own destiny.

Dubbed "The End of the Beginning," the new three-minute trailer shines a bit of light on where we find Lara Croft in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Set after the events of the highly-successful 2013 video game reboot and its follow-up, Rise of the Tomb Raider, it looks like Lara Croft is finally committing to a life of adventure, raiding tombs and taking down what look like Mayan cultists about to sacrifice a child.

The game will focus on Lara Croft's quest to stop the Mayan apocalypse, according to the official Tomb Raider Twitter account.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is shaping up to be Lara Croft's darkest adventure yet, doubling down on the suspense and grit from the first two titles. The trailer's title hints that this will be the end of Lara's origin story, possibly leaving the door open for future entries with the groundwork already in place.

This new entry in the franchise is developed by Eidos Montreal, known for their work on the Deus Ex and Thief franchises, including the more recent Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. The first two games in this trilogy were developed by Crystal Dynamics, who are collaborators on this project. Eidos Montreal and Square Enix also have an untitled Avengers game in development with Marvel Entertainment.

Tomb Raider also recently hit the big screen in a film led by Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. While the film pulled heavily from the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot, it didn't seem to do as well critically. It currently sits at a 49 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is scheduled to arrive on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on September 14, 2018.
