And most of its credit goes to its overpowered characters and awesome fights.

Escanor “Sin Of Pride” is one of the last Sins to be introduced. His changing personality and extremely overpowered abilities have made him a fan-favorite character of the series. His weapon of choice is Divine Axe Rhitta, his personal Sacred Treasure. Here are ten things you didn’t know about Escanor’s Divine Axe Rhitta.

10 It Was Given To Escanor By King Liones

Bartra Liones is the King of Britania and the adoptive father of Elizabeth. In his vision, king Liones predicted the formation of the Seven Deadly Sins, the saviors of the kingdom, and oversaw their knighthood. Back then, the Sacred Treasures were part of the treasury of the Kingdom of Liones.

Though not much is known about the origins of the Sacred Treasures. It is recorded that King Liones entrusted Sins with their respective Sacred Treasures after appointing them as the Seven Deadly Sins. This is how Divine Axe Rhitta came to be in the possession of Escanor.

9 Rhitta Is The Name Of A Young Maiden

Escanor from Seven Deadly Sins

During the introduction of the last member of Seven Deadly Sins, Escanor, Galand of the Ten Commandments is seen having trouble wielding the axe kept at Escanor’s bar. It was then when we were first introduced to the day form of almighty Escanor, as he snatched Rhitta away from Galand and claimed that the Demon who writhe in the darkness are unworthy of touching the Divine Axe Rhitta. He continues to explain that the Divine Axe Rhitta is a Battle Axe loved by the sun itself and crowned with a young maiden’s name.

8 Rhitta Is A One-Handed Weapon

Escanor’s Divine Axe Rhitta is a one-handed weapon despite being of a very heavy head. During the beginning of the Ten Commandments saga, Galand of the Ten Commandments complains that the Battle Axe in Escanor’s bar has a major design flaw. He claims that, for ahead as heavy as that of Rhitta, the length of the handle should have been, at least, three times longer.

But it was the perfect moment to introduce the most prideful and overpowered Sin, Escanor. He snatches away the battle axe from Galand and wields it with only one hand only, stating that it is a one-handed battle axe.

7 Rhitta Is The Heaviest Sacred Treasure

Divine ax Rhitta

The Divine Axe Rhitta is the heaviest of the Sacred Treasures and probably the heaviest weapon in Seven Deadly Sins. It is even heavier than the gigantic war hammer Gideon wielded by Diane. Gideon is known to be of 998kg or 2200lbs. So, Rhitta must weigh more than a ton.

Rhitta is so heavy that even Meliodas struggles to lift the axe and resorts to dragging the axe. But, for the powerhouse that is Escanor, the weight like this is a child's play. He uses the massively heavy Sacred Weapon with only one hand and cruses his enemies with the might of Divine Axe Rhitta.

6 Even Rhitta Has Limits

One of the most important jobs of Rhitta is to absorb the power emitted by the Lion Sin of Pride, Escanor, during his day form. If the energy is released to the surrounding, the temperature will get so heated that the surrounding will start to melt off. Due to this, Rhitta was specifically given to Escanor so that he would be able to roam freely.

But even the Divine Axe is unable to completely absorb the huge amount of energy radiated from Escanor. As the noon approaches, Rhitta will reach her limits, forcing Escanor to get away from any people or civilization.

5 Rhitta Is Mjolnir Of Escanor

Just like Mjolnir of Thor from the Marvel Universe, Escanor’s Divine Axe Ritta also answers the call of its Master. Escanor with the command” Heed my Will, Come to me Divine Axe Rhitta” can make the Sacred Treasure fly into his hands at an incredible speed. This ability of the Divine Axe is very similar to that of the ability of Thor to call upon his hammer, Mjolnir. It seems like Nakaba Suzuki, the writer and illustrator of the manga is influenced by the Marvel Comic Character or Greek Mythology. Either way, the ability to call upon the axe is very cool.

4 Rhitta Can Create Sun During Midnight

By using the Sacred Treasure Release command “Holy Ornament Release”, Escanor can let out all the energy stored inside the Axe in an instant. The amount of power leaked to the Axe by Escanor in his day form is exponential. So, the release of the Sacred Weapons emits very bright light and heat to the sky. For the people in the ground, the massive size and temperature of the energy ball created in the process, is enough to make them believe that it is the actual sun itself, glowing in the night.

3 The Flawed Handle Of Rhitta

When this beautiful blade was first introduced in the manga, it was in a wall of Escanor’s Bar. But something in the blade did not made sense, that was its handle. The handle seemed to be facing in the opposite direction as of the blade. It is not known if it was intentionally made that way by Nakaba Suzuki, the mangaka of Seven Deadly Sins, or it was a mistake. But later it was reformed to face the same direction as the blade. The fact remains, that if it was not changed, we would never have known that it was a flaw believed it as another feature of the Mighty Battle Axe.

2 Escanor Leaves Rhitta During The Night

Escanor meets estarossa for the first time

It is known that Escanor has a monstrous amount of power. He is one of the most overpowered characters in the anime as a whole. But this power only lasts as long as the sun is in the sky. During night time, Escanor turns into a little man who is by far the weakest character ever introduced in the series.

So it is impossible for Escanor in the night to carry the heaviest sacred treasure with him. But in the time of need, as seen during the Great Fight Festival Arc, he can command the Divine Axe Rhitta to fly over to his hand from anywhere, in a matter of seconds.

1 Zeldris Chipped Away A Piece Of The Divine Axe

In Chapter 289 “Pride Vs Piety” Zelderis gets to witness the overwhelming power of Escanor in The One Form. Zeldris, after creating the Ominus Nebula, which is made up of very dense magic that pulls in the victims and renders them immovable, is surprised how a mere human is walking inside it with ease. Escanor, then with his Divine Axe swings at Zeldris at full power, but Zeldris is able to repel the attack.

In the process, Zeldris chips away a piece of the Axe. Deciding that Axe cannot defeat Zeldris, Escanor continues to fight without his Sacred Treasure, The Divine Axe Rhitta.
