The series, The Seven Deadly Sins, has many perplexing characters with incredible life stories. One character's story that stands out is Elaine's. Introduced as a non-living fairy, not much was known about early on in the series. For a long time, her past remained a mystery and it was slowly uncovered in the form of flashbacks of the other characters until her revival.

Elaine is a favorite among most viewers due to her loving and generous personality, but even some fans still don't know everything there is to know about her, particularly the details of her backstory.

10 She Distrusted Humans For Hundreds Of Years

Over the years, many humans have ventured into the Fairy King's Forest to use the water from the Fountain of Youth for their own selfish reasons. As the Holy Maiden of The Fountain of Youth, Elaine had a duty to guard and protect it from those who wish to abuse its power.

Over time, she grew to distrust humans after they made several attempts to take advantage of the fountain's resources, steal riches from the land, and destroy the home of the Fairy Clan using fire.

9 She Held Enough Power To Protect The Fountain Of Youth In King's Place

While living peacefully in the Fairy King's Forest alongside her brother, Harlequin (aka King), humans began an attack on members of the Fairy Clan, including Helbram. King had no choice but to abandon the forest to help the captured fairies.

This left Elaine with the responsibility of protecting the Fountain of Youth in the place of her older brother until his return. She proved to be powerful enough to handle the task as she was successful in defending it from intruders, thieves, savage tribes, and entire armies.

8 Her Relationship With Ban Is Based On The Arthurian Legend Of Elaine Of Benoic & King Ban

The Arthurian legend of Elaine of Benoic and her husband, King Ban, was the inspiration for the anime couple fans know and love: Elaine and Ban. Not only were they named after these characters from Medieval literature, but in some ways, their love story parallels that of the royal couple as well.

Later in the series, Elaine births a son by the name of Lancelot— obviously inspired by Lancelot, son of Elaine of Benoic, companion of the famous King Arthur, and one the greatest Knights of the Round Table.

7 She Was Very Close Friends With Helbram

Both being born into the Fairy Clan and within the Fairy King's Forest, Elaine and Helbram were able to form a close relationship. Before the human attacks occurred, they spent all of their time together in their homeland. As King's best friend, Helbram had a special friendship and closeness to King's little sister.

Elaine also had a special place in her heart for Helbram, as she was willing to let King leave the forest and risk his life to save him from the evil humans.

Although Elaine refused to trust humans for hundreds of years, all of that changed when she met Ban. Despite her initial hesitation, she began to have faith in him as she could see that his intentions were not malicious.

After using her Heart Reading ability to see that his reasoning for coming to the Fountain of Youth was unselfish and good, she started to fall for him, as he did for her. Ban's love opened her heart to the rest of humanity and she became a more trusting fairy because of it.

4 She Spent Most Of Her Life Inside The Fairy King's Forest

With her brother, King, gone away from the Fairy King's Forest, Elaine was left with choice but to stay as its protector. Born from the Sacred Tree and raised in the forest, she never had the opportunity to leave.

Elaine remained there as the Holy Maiden of The Fountain of Youth for over 700 years until her death by a demon from the Demon Clan. It wasn't until later when she was revived that she was able to venture outside her home in search of Ban.

3 She Was Destined To Be A Late Bloomer

Unlike the other fairies, but similar to King, Elaine did not develop her fairy wings at an early age. This was most likely due to a mixture of her heritage and her fate as the younger sister of the third Fairy King.

Until she grew her wings, her appearance remained very youthful and childlike. Like her brother, Elaine's power level multiplied over seven times, and she appeared to look more mature and she slightly grew in size once she got them.

2 She Gave Up On Her Dream To Travel The World

As a loyal and protective maiden, Elaine dedicated her life to looking after the safety of her people. While she remained firm in her will to never abandon her responsibilities, she would often dream of traveling the world.

This led her to be disappointed when King left the Fairy King's Forest, as she knew his actions would prevent her from ever doing so. Once she met the love of her life, Ban, she wished to one day travel with him.

1 She Is Over One Thousand Years Old

Despite her misleadingly youthful appearance, Elaine has lived for over 1,000 years. Living extraordinary long lives is common among non-human races, and as a fairy, she can live longer than most. She has been around to see many wars and many periods of peace and harmony among the five races.

Elaine, still living, can now look forward to spending her life with her human partner, Ban, who was granted immortal life.
