Much like this year's surprise hit Ted Lasso, another one of Apple TV+'s series that has garnered unexpected praise has been the supernatural thriller, Servant. Dripping with atmospheric dread and director M. Night Shyamalan's distinctive visual style, the show tells a tale of domestic horror that unfolds largely within one location. And Apple seems to have a lot of confidence in the series because not only did it renew Servant for a second season ahead of its series premiere, but it has also now announced that a third season is in the works.

So, with another outing coming in the new year and more in the pipeline, here's everything you need to know about Servant Season 2's plot, release date and trailer.

Servant's Story So Far

Taking place mostly within the confines of their Philadelphia brownstone, Season 1 of Servant introduced married couple Sean and Dorothy Turner, who welcome young live-in nanny Leanne Grayson into their home to care for their infant son Jericho. However, it's soon revealed that the couple harbors a dark secret. As it turns out, their child died suddenly, and after having a psychotic break, Dorothy acts as though a realistic therapy doll is her son. To Sean's surprise, Leanne seems to mirror Dorothy's delusional behavior -- at least until he discovers that the doll has somehow transformed into a real-life baby, possibly a resurrected Jericho.

Sean then enlists the help of his brother-in-law Julian, who is dealing with his own grief by drowning his sorrows in alcohol, in investigating Leanne and the sudden appearance of this baby. However, As much as the series focuses on Sean and Julian's investigations and Sean and Dorothy's precarious marriage, Season 1 also explores the origins of the mysterious Leanne, who appears to have some sort of formidable supernatural power and a long-harbored obsession with Dorothy that soon sours after learning shocking truths.

At the end of Season 1, there are two major twists. First, it's revealed that Dorothy, overwhelmed with parental responsibilities while Sean was on a business trip, forgot Jericho in a hot car, killing him. Then, Leanne is revealed to have ties to an infamous cult, the Church of the Lesser Saints. After her relationship with Dorothy deteriorates and her creepy Uncle George and Aunt May arrive to bring her back home, Leanne leaves the Turner house, allowing the baby to transform back into a doll.

Servant Season 2's Trailer

In addition to a retrospective trailer revealing next season's release date, Apple has also released a rather unsettling official trailer for Season 2. The first look at the new season shows the Turners's efforts to find the now missing Leanne, including attempting to reach her via the news. Other foreboding images include bloody hands, Julian collapsing (and possibly being dragged away), Dorothy discovering a hidden camera and the suspicious crack in the cellar growing wider and oozing something. It also teases further encounters with Uncle George and increasingly supernatural and horrific events to come courtesy of Leanne, who ominously says, "I can feel the dark thing in me getting bigger."

Servant Season 2's Plot

Like many Shyamalan projects, Season 2 of Servant is bathed in mystery. However, after the cliffhanger ending of Season 1, series creator Tony Bagsgallop revealed a few key details to Variety. He teased that in the upcoming season, Dorothy, "more conscious now than she’s ever been," will now be searching for her "real baby," who she believes Leanne has stolen away from her. He also teased the repairing of Sean and Dorothy's relationship with Leanne, as well as that Leanne's origin would be an "ongoing reveal."
