One of the most explosive shooter franchises introduced in the past twenty years is Serious Sam, following the battle-hardened protagonist Sam "Serious" Stone as he takes on an extraterrestrial invasion from a race known as the Mental.
Developer Croteam is back with a trailer for the upcoming Serious Sam 4, a prequel to the entire franchise. The cinematic trailer sees Sam pursuing the Mental forces through an idyllic field before revealing the game's release date.
Croteam launched the franchise in 2001 with Serious Sam: First Encounter, as its first-person shooter answer to popular franchises such as Quake and Duke Nukem. A critical success, the game would spawn two direct follow-ups and a wave of spinoff titles. Last year, Croteam released a remastered compilation of the core games in the franchise.
Details for Serious Sam 4 are still currently under wraps but the main campaign will allow for up to four-players in a cooperative, online multiplayer mode as well as side missions designed to increasingly challenge even veteran players.
Developed by Croteam, Serious Sam 4 will be released on PC and Google Stadia in August 2020.
