Sergio Aragonés Joins Baltimore Comic-Con!

Official Press Release

BALTIMORE, MD – He's been called the world's fastest cartoonist. He's won just about every major award a cartoonist could win. He created Groo and destroyed the Marvel Comics and DC Comics universes. Now Sergio Aragonés is coming to the Baltimore Comic-Con, September 8-9, 2007 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

Celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of Groo this year with his frequent collaborator Mark Evanier, Aragonés will be the keynote speaker at this year's Harvey Awards dinner. The event will be held Saturday evening, September 8, after the convention concludes for the day.

Aragonés was born in 1937 in Castellon, Spain, but his family soon relocated to Mexico during the Spanish Civil War. At age 17, he began selling his illustrations professionally to a wide array of Mexican publications. In 1962, though, he arrived at the offices of Mad magazine and became a force to be reckoned with in American humor.

A Mad Look at the U.S. Space Effort" in Mad #76 (January of 1963) was his first contribution to the publication and his work has since appeared in every subsequent issue except one (blamed on a postal miscue). He also produced 16 best-selling original Mad paperback books.

He also created or worked on Bat Lash, Fanboy, Boogeyman, Magnor, Blair Witch?, Sergio Aragonés Massacres Marvel, Sergio Aragonés Destroys DC, and Sergio Aragonés Stomps Star Wars, among numerous other projects.

"We are delighted to have Sergio Aragonés attending the Baltimore Comic-Con and serving as the keynote speaker for the Harvey Awards," said Marc Nathan, the show's promoter. "In a business rich with living legends, Sergio is a creator who is a favorite with the fans and his fellow creators. It is quite fitting that he be our Keynote speaker for the 2007 Harvey Awards Dinner and Ceremonies"

Harvey Awards tickets are on sale now. Tickets to the event, which includes a full cocktail hour (cash bar), full service dinner, and awards ceremony, are now available for $75.
