Tennis champion Serena Williams proves her prowess in a different arena, in ad spots for DirectTV Stream -- as Wonder Woman.

The campaign for the rebranded AT&T streaming service will be unveiled on ESPN during one of the first games of the 2021 NCAA football season, between the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and the UCLA Bruins, at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday, reports Sportico. Titled "Wonder Williams," the 60-second ad shows a man and woman watching DirectTV Stream, switching between Williams during a game and the mall action sequence from Wonder Woman 1984.

Suddenly, Williams morphs into Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot in the 2020 film, and finds herself in the mall, which is attacked by ambulatory tennis ball launchers firing on the shoppers. Williams dispatches the invaders in her own style, preferring a golden tennis racket over the lasso at her side.

The rebranding campaign comes after DirecTV's former parent company AT&T spun it off into its own company, in the wake of AT&T's merger with Discovery. There will be 30-second and 15-second versions of this ad and Williams will be featured in other commercials in the campaign, which is created by TBWA\Chiat\Day Los Angeles.

Vince Torres, DirecTV's chief marketing officer, said the company will spend more on this ad campaign than on any other since 2015. Media company iSpot.TV says DirecTV spent $1.92 million on television advertising in 2020, but spent $164.6 million in 2015 for ads featuring celebrities and athletes. Williams, who has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, makes $34 million in endorsements. Citing an injury, she withdrew this week from the 2021 U.S. Open.
