Wit Studios, which is responsible for the massively popular anime Attack on Titan (and the much less popular) Vinland Saga, also created Owari no Seraph (ONS for short).

So far, there have been 41 chapters of the manga being adapted into 2 seasons of its anime. However, Wit Studios is notorious for its delayed releases (Attack on Titan season 2 aired 4 years after season 1), but that is a story for another day. As of now, there has been nothing but not-so-definitive information regarding the 3rd season of ONS. Assuming fans are lucky enough to get one, here are some things that they would love to see in it.

Spoiler alert!

9 Yuuichirou’s Bloodline

When he was a child, Yuu’s own mother called him a demon spawn. Fan theories were rife with speculation for years, till the manga confirmed it – he was part of the Seraph of the End experiment (more about it later), which resulted with him having seraph blood in his veins.

However, the most important question here would be whether the experiments converted Yuu from a human being into a demon hybrid, or did he already have a Seraph gene within him, which was simply triggered by the experiment? If it’s the latter, then that begs another important question – how was that gene passed down to him? Here’s hoping the manga, as well as season 3, answer these questions for fans.

8 Ferid Bathory’s True Intentions

It is not uncommon for well-written protagonists in shounens to have a dark side, or for villains to have “good” inside of them. On one hand, we have Guren Ichinose, a typical shounen hero, who hides a dark secret that makes us question whether he really is the series' hero or villain.

On the other hand, we have Ferid Bathory. And while he is an out and out villain, one can argue he isn't pure evil. This is because the reasons behind his actions have almost always remained a mystery. For example, why would he question Krul Tepes’ intentions in front of the Progenitor Council? Manga fans know that this is not because of a personal grudge, but because of Ferid’s secret plans. All we know is that Ferid will play a much more important role in season 3, where he will reveal to Yu and his squad about what happened when most of humanity was killed 8 years ago.

Even if the 3rd season is canceled (like many other anime in the past), fans still have the manga to look forward to.

7 Shikama Doji – Shinoa’s Cursed Gear

For the uninitiated, Shinoa’s scythe has a name – Shikama Doji.

Doji is not just any character, he used to be the First Progenitor of a specific vampire race called the Sika Madu. Later on in the manga, he’s forced by Guren and Mahiru to leave Shinoa’s possessed body, which is made possible by their acquiring the sinful keys.

Despite juicy information being revealed about him every few chapters, the character’s still shrouded in mystery. He’s raised more questions than he’s answered, including the most important one – how did Shinoa manage to form a bond/contract with such a powerful demon?

6 MikaYuu Finally Becoming Canon

ONS is a rare type of shounen. That’s because unlike other shounen anime that focus more on the main character powering up and having at least one girl fall for him for no apparent reason, this one focuses a lot on the internal and emotional turmoil of all its main casts involved, especially between Mikaela and Yuuichirou.

The bond that these two boys have between them, goes beyond being mere friends. Detractors would ask why one has to see romance in a platonic relationship. To that, shippers ask unabashedly – would critics have felt the same way if Mika was not a boy, but a girl?

5 The Revelation About Krul Tepes’ Brother

1000 years ago, Krul lost her innocent brother Ashera, to the vampires. He was kidnapped by Sika Madu and was turned because of orders given by the First Progenitor. Unknown to Krul, his current identity is that of Asuramaru. Yes, the same Asuramaru who serves as Yuu’s cursed gear. However, later manga chapters show that Krul is made aware of this fact, and she becomes determined in saving him.

Flashbacks show us how deeply Krul cared for her brother and how despite her turning into a vampire, those feelings never left her. She is still in search of her brother, and she’s mad at the vampires who were responsible for turning him.

4 An Explanation On How The Vampire Gears Work

Monsters in fantasy anime are a staple. However,  most usually use the sheer strength of their bodies or rely on magical powers to win battles with the heroes. ONS showcases a rare type of monster - one that relies more on their weapons, than their physical strength, to win battles. The 2 seasons of ONS gave fans a good view of vampire gears – they suck the blood of the vamps in order to work their magic. However, the question remains whether this is because demons are involved (just like with the humans’ cursed gear) or is this a new type of supernatural weapon altogether? If it is, then what are the laws that govern these weapons? Can then work with human hosts too, or do they feed off vampire blood only?

While the manga has remained silent on vampire gears, here’s hoping season 3 sheds some light onto them.

3 Ferid Bathory’s Actual Strength

Ferid is one of the most (if not the most) popular vampires from ONS. He is an often misunderstood character. While he does kill children for no reason other than to instill fear in the hearts of other children, there is no denying that he is a lot more cunning than he appears (which is saying a lot).

While never shown in the anime, the manga shows him being approached by a group of other vamps, headed by a Sixth Progenitor. At the end of the scene, he walks away relatively unharmed, but not before cutting of the Sixth’s arm. So how exactly does a Seventh Progenitor manage to do that? Has he been hiding his true powers? If yes, then why so?

2 Ashera And Yu’s Previous Friendship

This one is a massive spoiler. Chapter 74 of the manga has Sika Madu narrating that in the very distant past, Ashera and Yuu used to be inseparable friends. They were basically joined at the hip and even back then, Krul was Ashera’s sister.

When little Ashera was kidnapped (to be sold as a slave), it is mentioned that Yuu went out in search of him, to rescue him from his captors, one of whom was Sika Midu. After he saves Ashera, the manga hints that it’s possible Yuu went after Krul to save her from a similar fate. Essentially, this flashback serves to show us that Mika is not the only person Yuu had a crazy strong bond with.

1 Why Did The Virus Wipe Out The Adult Population?

Season 1 of the ONS anime makes it amply clear as to how the characters got into their present situations. The reason there were hardly any humans to protect children like Mika and Yu was because they had been killed in 2012 due to a deadly virus. The manga reveals that this virus was released into the human world due to humans triggering the Seraph of the End experiment.

What even the manga fails to explain is why the virus didn’t affect a single child. Popular fan theories suggest that it’s because children are innocent, and the virus only targeted the adults, who are assumed by default were the sinners.
