Netflix’s Sense8 isn’t as dead as everyone thought. On Twitter, series co-creator Lana Wachowski announced that the show — which was cancelled earlier this month — would be revived for a two-part special.
In her post, Wachowski detailed the emotional impact the series’ cancellation had on her, then thanked fans for their passionate support, which made her realize that she was not alone. At the end of the letter, she announced the revival, writing, “It is my great pleasure as well as Netflix’s… to announce that there will be another two hour special released next year.”

Wachowski also seems to hope that this two-hour special may not be the end for Sense8. “After that… if this experience has taught me anything, you NEVER know,” she teased.
The announcement of a Sense8 special comes just three weeks after Netflix released a statement saying the show was gone for good. A message re-emphasizing the cancellation appeared on the show’s official Facebook page on June 8, reading, “To our Sense8 family… We’ve seen the petitions. We’ve read the messages. We know you want to #RenewSense8, and we wish we could #BringBackSense8 for you. The reason we’ve taken so long to get back to you is because we’ve thought long and hard here at Netflix to try to make it work but unfortunately we can’t. Thank you for watching and hope you’ll stay close with your cluster around the world. #SensatesForever.” However, per the announcement above, it seems Netflix has changed its mind.
Debuting in 2015, Sense8 centered on eight strangers from around the globe who are suddenly mentally and emotionally linked, and must find a way to survive while hunted by those who see them as a threat to the world’s order. The series was cancelled after its second season, which premiered in May.
The as-yet-untitled Sense8 two-hour special will arrive on Netflix in 2018.
