When it comes to shows predicting the future The Simpsons gets all the credit, but the legendary sitcom Seinfeld can also claim to be prophetic. In a year where working from home has become the new norm, people can now purchase a bed that can be converted into a desk called the Hiddenbed. However, the idea of a bed/desk hybrid was envisioned in an episode of Seinfeld over two decades ago.

In the Season 8 episode, "The Nap," George Costanza's need to take a sleep break during his work day leads to a Costanza-like idea. George is working for the New York Yankees in Yankee Stadium where his office walls are windows that any of the many people who regularly walk by can see through. So George decides to catch some z's by creating a bunk hidden underneath his desk. He gets help from Jerry's contractor Conrad to construct a personal bed under his desk that includes room for things like alarm clocks, magazines and snacks.

While initially the plan of taking naps in the office works out, things soon go awry in typical George fashion. Yankees owner and boss George Steinbrenner (who's voiced by Seinfeld co-creator Larry David) walks into his office while George is secretly napping because he wants to talk to George about a song he heard him singing the other day. As George waits for his boss to leave so he can emerge from his hidden sleeping compartment, Steinbrenner's grandkids and dog show up and play around the office.

So George calls Jerry and instructs him to call in a bomb threat to get Steinbrenner and his family to leave. But when they learn about the threat, they decide to hide under George's desk where, of course, they find George. Fortunately for George, his boss comes to the conclusion George was already aware of the bomb threat, leading Steinbrenner to appoint George as the Yankee's terrorism expert.

Then one day, as Steinbrenner walks by George's office, he hears a ticking sound. The audience knows it's just George's alarm clock, but his boss believes it's a bomb and calls in the bomb squad. In a cruel ending for George's desk, the bomb squad's robot picks the desk apart, exposing all the hidden items he'd stashed there for nap-time. The discovery leads to all of the desks in Yankee Stadium being replaced so nothing can be hidden underneath -- including beds.

Little did Costanza know, however, that his invention of a bed combined with a desk was ahead of its time. Hiddenbed functions as a desk until the user decides to lower the hidden mattress, converting it into a bed. And while Hiddenbed's goal is to save space for those working from home, it's easy to imagine George seeing it as the perfect solution for workplace napping.
