To celebrate Sonic the Hedgehog's 30th anniversary in 2021, Sega will be committing to a "year of celebration" for the popular blue speedster, which will include new games, digital content and more.

A two-page investment ad in Licensing Source Book Europe showcases the attitude-fuelled hedgehog as he reaches up to grab a power ring while turning to look at the reader with a confident smile. To celebrate 30 years since his first game released on Genesis, Sega also noted how new games will be released alongside digital content and Sonic the Hedgehog-themed events before teasing future "major announcements" and a "tailored licensing programme."

At the time of writing, there is no indication of the games Sega has in store for Sonic fans, or whether they will be mobile-based, released for current-gen or even intended for the eagerly anticipated next-generation series of consoles.

This news comes shortly after Sonic's live-action movie debut, the sequel to which arrives in theaters April 8, 2022.

Directed by Jeff Fowler, Sonic the Hedgehog stars Ben Schwartz as Sonic and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, with James Marsden, Neal McDonald, Tika Sumpter, Adam Pally and Natasha Rothwell.
