WARNING: The following contains spoilers for See Season 2, Episode 1, "Brothers and Sisters," now available on Apple TV+.

Apple TV+'s See has been about Queen Kane (Sylvia Hoeks) consolidating her position as leader of the Payan Kingdom, a post-apocalyptic section of America where tribes jostle for power after everyone went blind. However, she's worried as whispers of uprising continue to permeate, threatening her position as "divine ruler" and "absolute monarch" of the realm. However, as Season 2 kicks off, she makes two massive decisions that drastically affect her game of thrones.

Season 1 ended with Kane finding her sister, Maghra (Hera Hilmarsdóttir), and formulating a new plan. She knows Maghra, despite being younger, was the benevolent sister their dad wanted to take the throne, but Maghra's coup didn't work out, and she went on the run for years. However, after destroying the palace, the Kanzua Dam, to kill off would-be usurpers, Kane's treading lightly as she cannot afford to harm Maghra now that word's out she's alive.

It's bad optics, plus loyalists are waiting to side with the princess that deserved the rulership. Kane decides to take the battalion to Pennsa, a well-fortified colony, which she turns into the new Payan capital. The problem is, its ward, Lord Harlan, is a conniving figure a la Game of Thrones' Littlefinger. Admittedly, he's disappointed Kane survived after she went missing, but seeing as he has a bond with Maghra, he wants to work on deposing the mad queen.

He even mentions the insurrection and rumors of Kane drowning her capital, so the queen decides to proactively drum up support. Kane holds a public meeting and confirms Trivantes is the kingdom that destroyed Kanzua. As such, they'll have to wage war on the lands run by Commander General Edo Voss to maintain supremacy. The second big decision comes as she lies about how they tried to kill her for being pregnant with a child of sight, making it clear it will be a Chosen One to usher in a new age of riches, light and hope per prophecy.

She riles fanatics obsessed with religion and war but angers Harlan, who now knows it'll be harder to kill a beloved royal. Even as he attempts to bring some mysterious man as leverage, he'll have his work cut out. But Maghra may indeed sway to his side to create a full-blown civil war. She chides Kane for winging it because once word gets out that she framed Trivantes, Edo will march on them. More so, by indicating sighted kids aren't witches anymore, some of their followers may decide this is blasphemy and try to wipe out all the royals, echoing the discontent in Kanzua.

In other words, a disingenuous Kane has placed targets on their backs from both ends without consulting an incensed Maghra. When Kane tries to play it off, letting Maghra know her own kids with Baba Voss -- Kofun and Haniwa -- will no longer be fugitives, Maghra admits danger still looms. Kane's playing politics could have dire consequences with Kofun and Baba trying to rescue an imprisoned Haniwa from Edo in Trivantes.

To top it off, it's not clear if she's even pregnant with Boots' (another sighted warrior Jerlamarel fathered) child. So if this is a lie, Harlan can use it as ammo to convince the public Kane's dynasty has to fall. Ultimately, Maghra's hand is being forced, and she'll need to pick a winning side. Whether or not she sides with him, due to Kane's clear manipulation, Harlan is going to move on the crown soon. Therefore, Maghra needs to find the best position for her children once Harlan's people find them.

The Season 2 premiere of See is available on Apple TV+, with subsequent episodes available every Friday.
