WARNING: The following contains spoilers for See Season 2, Episode 2, "Forever," now available on Apple TV+.

As Season 2 of Apple TV+'s See continues, Baba Voss (Jason Momoa) is in dire straits. He's trying to rescue his adopted daughter, Haniwa (Nesta Cooper) from the war kingdom of Trivantes. His evil brother, Edo (Dave Bautista) has captured him, torturing Baba for the fact that Baba killed their tyrannical dad and fled. Luckily, Haniwa has found a friend in Lieutenant Wren (Eden Epstein), someone else with sight, who becomes a kindred spirit Haniwa has feelings for. Unfortunately, as Haniwa unlocks a path to freedom, her big romantic moment ends in sheer heartbreak.

Haniwa had a chance to kill Wren in the previous episode but opted not to. Instead, they sense a common fire in each other, not just because of their sight, but because they're outsiders. Wren has to hide her vision or else she'll be deemed a witch, which reminds Haniwa of her own past with the Alkenny, bringing them closer together.

Wren takes her for a walk through the capital, showing her life in Trivantes, and eventually to a loft where Haniwa sees the land like never before. There, they discuss art, life, family and love, in what's essentially a date. As Wren shows her a ring in the room, sparks fly and they consummate their bond in a passionate tryst.

However, Wren has to secret her back to her chambers, as Edo has perverse plans for the prisoner. Edo has Haniwa carted off to his home while Baba screams in pain, knowing what's next. There, Edo has a war general come in to rape Haniwa, because he wants her to produce sighted babies he can raise into soldiers. He makes it clear he'll do so until her womb can't reproduce anymore, and then he'll kill her and dump her with Baba.

Thankfully, Wren moves quickly, freeing Baba and heading off to rescue Haniwa. They cut down many guards, with Wren murdering Haniwa's attacker in the nick of time. She escorts them to the Eastern gate where they can slip out, but sadly, when Haniwa insists Wren come with them, she refuses.

No matter what, she's loyal to Trivantes, not because duty, but because she's got family there. Her ancestors helped build the place too, so she can't abandon it, despite being in love with Haniwa. She does, however, gift the ring, mentions how love can last "forever," and cuts the rope. This drops the gate down so they can flee.

It's a bittersweet moment because now we know the two of them weren't just talking about being outcasts due to their sight, but because they were lesbians. However, Wren may have doomed herself, because if Edo can piece together breadcrumbs and realize she aided the escape, she won't be shown any mercy.

The first two episodes of Season 2 of See are available on Apple TV+, with subsequent episodes available every Friday.
