Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson, confirmed that Don Cheadle's War Machine will feature in the upcoming Secret Invasion series.

Jackson discussed working alongside War Machine actor Don Cheadle in Secret Invasion during a recent episode of the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast. "Don, Don Cheadle… I got Don, that's my golf buddy. I didn’t realize it, but til we did [Secret Invasion], I was like, 'We’ve never worked together.' We just kinda know each other, hang out and laugh… but we'd never worked together, and we finally [got to work together]," Jackson said.

Fans began speculating about War Machine's involvement in Secret Invasion after images snapped of the show's London set surfaced on Instagram. The pictures included a close-up of a prop newspaper with a photo of Cheadle as War Machine's alter-ego, James "Rhodey" Rhodes on the cover. At the time, it was unclear whether Rhodey's presence would be limited to this pictorial cameo, or if the armored superhero would play a bigger role in the series.

This isn't the first casting news Jackson has shared. The star recently divulged that Martin Freeman will also appear in Secret Invasion. Freeman will reprise the role of CIA operative Everett K. Ross, who he played in Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther. His involvement comes as a surprise to fans since he was never previously attached to the project. Freeman's next Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance will be in the Black Panther sequel, Wakanda Forever, which arrives in theaters Nov. 11, 2022.

Aside from spilling the beans about Cheadle's involvement, Jackson also made a point of praising his other officially confirmed Secret Invasion co-stars. "C'mon, man, you walk on the set, Emilia [Clarke's] amazing… Ben Mendelsohn, he's awesome," Jackson said. Mendelsohn returns as shape-shifting Skrull Talos, while Clarke's role remains a mystery at this stage.

A video of Fury and Talos's reunion in Secret Invasion emerged in January 2022. Despite both appearing in Spider-Man: Far From Home, this marks the first time that Jackson and Mendelsohn have appeared in a scene together since 2019's Captain Marvel. Footage of Clarke on set in Leeds arrived that same month, seemingly corroborating reports that the UK city was doubling for a Russian location.

Secret Invasion is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2023.
