Secret Invasion star Christopher McDonald has opened up about the Marvel Studios series' fast-approaching reshoots, explaining that he believes they will only help to elevate the story.

"I have to tell you, it checked off so many wishes off my bucket list," McDonald told Awards Focus when asked about Secret Invasion. "First of all, working in the Marvel universe and working with great actors is so wonderful. What I can tell you about my character is that he can sneak in and out of any storyline in the Marvel universe."

McDonald continued, "The director Ali Selim is fantastic, and it's a delight to play this storyline because it's really, really good. We're actually heading back to London on Tuesday to do additional scenes. They're doing reshoots in a way that's making the story better. Apparently, there's a new writer in there. He's amped it up, and the series is going so much deeper than before."

Marvel's Secret Invasion Hits Disney+ in 2023

Marvel Studios first announced Secret Invasion for Disney+ in December 2020. The show is based on Marvel Comics' 2008 crossover storyline of the same name, the core limited series of which was written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Leinil Francis Yu. The original Secret Invasion revolves around the shape-shifting alien race known as the Skrulls, who had secretly replaced a number of superheroes across the Marvel Universe.

Set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion sees franchise mainstay Samuel L. Jackson reprise his role as Nick Fury. Additionally, Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman and Don Cheadle reprise their roles as Talos, Maria Hill, Everett K. Ross and James Rhodes/War Machine, respectively.

Moreover, McDonald is one of numerous actors who have been cast in the series in mysterious roles. McDonald's fellow MCU newcomers include Kingsley Ben-Adir, who is said to be playing a key villain; Olivia Colman, who is said to be playing an old ally of Fury's; Emilia Clarke; Killian Scott; and Carmen Ejogo. Dermot Mulroney has seemingly been cast in the role of United States President Ritson.

Nick Fury and the Skrull known as Talos first shared the screen in the 2019 film Captain Marvel (which introduced the Skrulls to the MCU), with the two becoming allies. Later that year, in Spider-Man: Far From Home, it was revealed that Talos and his wife, Soren (Sharon Blynn), had assumed the identities of Nick Fury and Maria Hill, respectively, seemingly at Fury's behest. The real Fury, meanwhile, was traveling the stars. Secret Invasion is slated to premiere on Disney+ in the spring of 2023 as part of Phase Five of the MCU. The first trailer for the series was recently shown at Marvel Studios' Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, though has not yet been released to the public.
