Secret Invasion star Emilia Clarke recently took to Instagram to celebrate her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut.

Clarke marked the occasion by posting a heartfelt message alongside the newly-released Secret Invasion trailer. The message starts with the English actor expressing amazement at being invited to be part of Marvel Studios' shared universe. The focus then shifts to Clarke's co-stars Samuel L. Jackson, Olivia Colman and Ben Mendelsohn, all of whom she describes herself as being in awe of, to the extent that she worried about "dissolving into a fangurl [sic]" during their scenes together.

Marvel Studios is still yet to reveal the identity of Clarke's Secret Invasion character. A recent report indicates that the Game of Thrones alumnus will portray the G'iah/Gloria Warner, who first appeared in the comics in 2019's Meet the Skrulls limited series by Robbie Thompson and Nico Henrichon. Meet the Skrulls establishes G'iah as one of the Skrulls who invaded earth during the Secret Invasion crossover, only to later have a change of heart about her mission. Clarke portraying G'iah should be treated as pure speculation at this stage, however.

The Secret Invasion Trailer Premieres at D23 2022 Expo

The Secret Invasion trailer premiered at D23 2022 Expo on Sept. 10, 2022, before becoming more widely available online and via Disney+. Clarke's unnamed character appears in several shots brandishing a gun, and is also shown warning Nick Fury (Jackson) that the unspecified events he's just experienced are "only the beginning." Several familiar faces also crop up, including Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), James "Rhodey" Rhodes (Don Cheadle), Talos (Mendelsohn) and Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman), as well as Colman's as-yet-unidentified character, said to be an old associate of Fury's.

The inclusion of so many old and new MCU figures in the trailer tracks with Disney+'s official description of Secret Invasion as a "crossover event series," the first of its kind under the Disney+ Originals banner. What's more, the trailer's paranoid vibe aligns with previous remarks by Smulders regarding the tense atmosphere created by the show's shape-shifting antagonists. "[The Skrulls have] been building in numbers. And are they good? Are they bad? We're gonna find out in the show. There's certainly a lot of them and so it sort of turns into this, 'Can I trust you? Can I not trust you?' [situation]. And it's really cool. It's certainly fraught with a lot of tension," she said.

Secret Invasion is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2023 and will run for six episodes.
