Secret Invasion is just one of several projects that may have been pushed back as Marvel Studios reportedly seeks to adjust its approach to production. Insiders have stated that company is looking to reduce its overall output of content and instead focus on quality over quantity. Arguably the most notable delay went to The Marvels, which was pushed from its original July 2023 release date to November 2023. Others impacted include Blade, What If...? Season 2, Loki Season 2 and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Billed as the MCU's first "crossover event series," Secret Invasion will follow Nick Fury as he attempts to foil a group of Skrulls that have quietly assumed the identity of powerful figures around the world. In doing so, he'll have to work alongside his extra-terrestrial allies and ex-S.H.I.E.L.D teammates to not only uncover the plot but also ensure word of the incident doesn't spread too widely. The show marks Samuel L. Jackson's return to the role of Fury as he's accompanied by familair faces such as Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman), James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn).

Secret Invasion also marks the MCU debut of Game of Thrones veteran Emilia Clarke who will seemingly be playing Abigail Brand, the leader of the Sentient World Observation and Response Division (S.W.O.R.D). Speaking about joining the expansive superhero franchise, Clarke has nothing but praise for Marvel Studios' intricate process. "It’s like everyone at Marvel knows how to unlock the Rubik’s cube, and you couldn’t even possibly — I can’t do a Rubik’s Cube to save my damn life," she said. "They’re drinking some water over there. I don’t know what it is. It’s fabulous. […] They nail it. They just absolutely nail it."

Secret Invasion will reportedly premiere on Disney+ in June.
