Secret Invasion star Samuel L. Jackson confirms another Marvel Cinematic Universe actor for the series.

During the Samuel L. Jackson: In Conversation With Josh Horowitz event in New York City, Jackson discussed all the "amazing" actors he worked with on the upcoming Disney+ series, which includes stars like Emilia Clarke and Olivia Coleman. In a video posted on Twitter, Jackson also namedropped Martin Freeman before geeking out about the chance to work with Coleman. Freeman portrayed CIA operative Everett K. Ross in both Captain America: Civil War (2016) and Black Panther (2018).

The cast of Secret Invasion is set to include other returning MCU actors, including Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill and Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos. The news of Freeman's involvement comes at a time when details on the series and its cast are rather "secret." It is still unknown exactly who Clarke will be portraying in the project, though set video captured recently showed the actor's character in a fight for her life.

Jackson's Nick Fury will also be given a drastically different look for the series. Instead of his black leather coat, goatee and signature eye patch (though he has sported shades following Captain America: The Winter Soldier), the actor will be seen with a full beard and his Flerkin-damaged eye exposed for all to see. The Skrulls will be a main focus of the story, an alien race which Fury first came into contact with in Captain Marvel (2019). Since then in the MCU, Skrulls like Talos have only appeared in Spider-Man: Far From Home and WandaVision.

Secret Invasion draws inspiration from a massive Marvel Comics crossover event of the same name, which pulled the rug out from under the Marvel Universe. Written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Leinil Francis Yu, the storyline revealed that many of Earth's mightiest heroes had been replaced by Skrulls for an extended period of time. Far From Home showed that Talos is currently pretending to be Fury on Earth, but it is unclear at the present moment if any other MCU characters are actually Skrulls as well.

Ahead of the Disney+ series, Marvel Comics announced that a sequel to the original Secret Invasion would release later in 2022. The miniseries will feature five issues written by Ryan North with art by Francesco Mobili, and explore Fury, Hill and Tony Stark's Iron Man dealing with a new Skrull invasion. However, it is teased that the heroes will be more prepared than they were the last time.

The Secret Invasion series on Disney+ does not currently have an official release date, but is expected to release in 2023. The next MCU series set to hit the platform is Moon Knight on March 30, 2022.
