Second “Batman v Superman” Trailer Sees Decline in Online Engagement

After debuting on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” the second trailer for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” racked up 23.2 million views during its first 24-hours online — almost seven million shy of the first teaser and trailer, both of which earned about 30 million viewers in the same time frame (via Variety).

In comparison, the first trailer for “Captain America: Civil War” — which also debuted on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” — pulled in a record-breaking 61 million views. Of course, this is “Batman v Superman’s” third release and “Civil War’s” first, which likely accounts for the difference in views. The report also speculates that the “Batman v Superman” trailer would have fared better if it had debuted before “Civil War” or if more star power had been there to introduce it; Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans were on hand to release the “Civil War” trailer, where Ben Affleck introduced “Batman v Superman” solo.

Directed by Zack Snyder, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” hits theaters March 25, 2016, and stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.
