The resemblance between Sebastian Stan and Mark Hamill has long been noticed by fans and the Winter Soldier says he's not against stepping into the Star Wars galaxy as the legendary Luke Skywalker.

When asked directly about the demand from fans for him to be cast as the iconic Jedi, Stan told Esquire, "Look, it's really kind and never say never." He also joked about the uncanny resemblance by saying, "Mark Hamill is my father, you know, and he knows that. And I call him every Christmas to tell him, 'I just want you to know I'm around.'"

It was Stan's appearance in Captain America: Civil War as the Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes that eventually led to fans noticing the similarities, prompting numerous memes of Stan and Hamill. Both actors have taken the jokes in good humor as Hamill even wished his "son" a happy birthday in a tweet from 2018, writing "I'm beginning to believe [Stan] might actually BE my son, cuz just like [Nathan Hamill & [Griffin Hamill], he never calls... he never writes..." Mark jokingly ended his message with the hashtag "ingrates."

Beyond the popular fan cast, there have also been rumors that Stan might be considered to take on the role of a young Luke for real. Stan shot these down in March 2021, saying that he would only believe the reports were true if  "Mark Hamill calls me personally to tell me that he feels inclined to share this role with me."

Disney and Lucasfilm have brought a young Luke Skywalker back to a galaxy far, far away but it wasn't through creative casting of a physically similar actor like Stan. In Season 2 of The Mandalorian, a young Luke answered the call for a Jedi to take care of the force-sensitive Grogu and teach him the ways of their order. The Skywalker that appeared was a mix of stand-in actor Max Lloyd-Jones and a de-aged Hamill, a technique also employed in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on Wilhuff Tarkin and Princess Leia.

It's not just Luke Skywalker that Stan has been compared to as many fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have remarked on the similarities between Stan and Richard Madden, who plays Ikaris in Eternals. Confused viewers took to Twitter with photographic evidence to compare the two and call them "long lost brothers."

For now, Stan is taking advantage of his resemblance to Motley Crüe's drummer Tommy Lee in the miniseries Pam & Tommy. New episodes drop every Wednesday on Hulu.
