The sequel had already been announced, but today brings the first casting confirmation: Original stars Seann William Scott, Jason Biggs and Eugene Levy are officially signed on to return for American Reunion, which is to be the fourth theatrically released entry in the series. The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which also reveals that Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari and Jennifer Coolidge are in talks to reprise their roles.
The upcoming sequel is being written and directed by Harold & Kumar creators Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, which should ensure a raunchy, cleverly biting return to form for a series that has long been relegated to direct-to-video releases. Don't forget that American Pie had a bit more edge than your average high-school comedy (and I'm not just talking about the pie play). The news that these players are getting back together, and that they're being backed by such a potent creative team, only bodes well for the return.
There's no word on how Scott's recent voluntary entry into rehab might affect the production, if it does at all.
