The nautical multiplayer game Sea of Thieves began its fourth season in September 2021, adding a host of new challenges for enterprising pirates to undertake. The new update, released free for any current players, is all about the undersea kingdom of the sirens, a creature added in season 3.

These new areas hide a wealth of treasure, but they're well hidden beneath the waves. A plethora of Halloween-themed cosmetics have been added to Sea of Thieves just in time for the spookiest time of year. There's lots to see in the new update, and any pirates looking to take full advantage will need to prioritize and plan accordingly.

10 Siren Shrines Have Exciting New Puzzles To Solve

Six siren shrines were added to the game, making up the Sunken Kingdom of the merfolk. There are two each in The Shores of Plenty, The Ancient Isles, and The Wilds. The shrines are home to puzzles that will force pirates to think in three dimensions, raising and lowering the water level to access the full area. Along with standard treasure types, the new Coral Treasure will be scattered throughout the area giving a new avenue for pirates to make piles of gold.

9 Siren Treasuries Hold Brand New Loot Ripe For Plunder

Siren Treasuries are similar to shrines, but there are fewer of them and they are more focused on combat. With only one each in The Shores of Plenty, The Ancient Isles, and The Wilds, the treasuries will be much harder to find than the shrines.

Pirates looking to loot the treasuries will need to be prepared to fight off ocean crawlers, sirens, and the new Treasury Vaultmaster to get at riches within. Expect to find plenty of standard treasure, along with the new Coral Treasure ready to be sold for massive profit.

8 Siren Statues Make Transporting Treasure A Breeze

After a crew has looted a Siren Treasury or Shrine, they will have armfuls of loot to transport to their ship waiting at the surface. Luckily, the new Merfolk Statues make this process much easier. Players can store a limited number of items within the statues, and when they return to the surface they will find a folk waiting. Interacting with this merfolk will result in all the treasure appearing on the surface, just waiting to be collected. But pirates beware, any swimmers attempting to recover the loot are vulnerable to sharks and other players.

7 There Are New Ways To Start Adventures

Players looking to plunder the new areas added in Season 4 have a few options to locate them. First, each treasury and shrine is indicated by a swirling purple vortex on the surface of the water and extending into the sky. It's quite a swim to reach the bottom, but pirates no longer need to breathe in certain areas. The second way is to find a coral-encrusted message bottle, which will initiate a new quest. If completed in this way, the shrine or treasury will contain a Breath of the Sea which can be sold at very high prices.

6 A New Epic Voyage Tops It All Off

The observant pirate will notice journals spread throughout the six Shrines. After reading a total of 30, five in each shrine, the studious pirate will be awarded with the Mysteries of the Sunken Kingdom commendation. Once this has been earned, a new Voyage will be available from Larinna in any port. This is the final Voyage of the Siren storyline, which sees pirates following the notes of an old scholar and a magical compass to uncover the final secrets the Undersea Kingdom has to offer.

5 New Outfits And Livery Have Arrived In The Emporium
