Originally released in 2018, Sea of Thieves suffered from a lack of polish and content. SoT has come a long way since then and is now a charming and colorful game full of exciting gameplay and wonderful scenery.

While players have seen many of the sights the Sea of Thieves has to offer, there are plenty of secrets and easter eggs hidden throughout the game as well – some of which experienced pirates might not even be aware of.

10 Several Important Community Members Have In-Game Easter Eggs

There are plenty of little details hidden around the dozens of islands in Sea of Thieves, many of which appear to add flavor to the world. But this is not always the case. In fact, many of these are easter eggs in honor of people from the community.

From the writing on the placards of certain taverns to drawings found scattered about the rocks of some of the islands, these homages to some legendary pirates are a nice little touch added to the game. Finding them all can give a player some nice commendation as well, making them well worth discovering.

9 The Shops Sellers Seem Satisfied By Alliteration

Outposts are the main hubs in the Sea of Thieves, where players can buy and sell all their hard-earned goods. While most of the outposts on the map tend to be the same, each one has a unique layout and slightly less unique NPCs.

Observant players will notice one thing that these shopkeepers have in common; each one has a name that begins with the first letter of the type of shop they operate. For example, all the weapon sellers' names begin with W, tools with T, and so on. Just a small little detail for those who are paying attention.

8 Snakes Love The Sound Of Music

There are plenty of gameplay tricks and tips for Sea of Thieves that aren't spelled out for the player. Instead, SoT is a game that features plenty of trial and error. One trick is knowing that snakes are noticeably affected by music.

Anyone who has ended up on Snake Island will know how pesky these slithering serpents can be. Should a pirate pull out their accordion and play them a tune, they'll find the snakes lulled into a sleepy stupor, making them much easier to handle.

7 Going Barefoot Is Certainly Sneakier

Sea of Thieves Pirate Costumes

It goes without saying that dressing like a pirate is one of the most important parts of Sea of Thieves, and picking out the perfect costume can be plenty of fun. Looking the part is half the fun of sailing the seas. For those considering a fancy pair of boots to go along with their costume, it might be worth considering going barefoot instead. This will make your footsteps much quieter, possibly allowing you to get the jump on an enemy pirate if the situation is just right.

6 The Kraken Only Strikes When The Seas Are Quiet

The Sea of Thieves is home to many denizens, with pirates, parrots, pigs, and phantoms all calling it home. There is one creature that roams the sea that is feared more than any other and is the scourge of many a pirate who had the misfortune of coming across it – the dreaded Kraken.

While fighting the Kraken can be one of the most exciting moments one can have in Sea of Thieves, it is important to note that the creature can spawn only under certain conditions, when no other world events are happening. If you don't see any scary clouds in the sky, buckle up, because the Kraken might be lurking beneath the waves.

5 Plants On The Sea Of Thieves Love Salt Water

Sea of Thieves Plant Crate

From hunting down skeleton captains to digging up treasure, there are many types of quests and jobs pirates can pick up from the different Trading Companies in the game. Occasionally one will get a mission to transport cargo, which will include a crate of plants that must be kept alive until its destination.

Luckily for those taking on this mission, these plants are capable of drinking up salt water straight from the sea. One clever trick that can save players the effort of constantly refilling their buckets to water the plants involves flooding the bottom section of their ship. It'll move a bit slower, but the plants won't need to be watered, saving a tiny bit of effort.

4 A Splash Of Water Will Sober You Up Quick

Having a drink of grog after a long day of digging up treasure, killing ghost pirates, and boarding enemy ships can be a rewarding experience. On the Sea of Thieves, they make that grog strong and even a drink or two can send a hearty pirate reeling down the dock.

Not everyone on the Sea of Thieves respects the sanctity of a good drinking binge, and occasionally a pirate may be called into action while still under the influence. Luckily, a quick bucket of water to the face will sober them up quickly.

3 The Vomit Attack Is Both Disgusting And Effective

Another use for the bucket is less savory. Should a pirate happen to consume too much grog, they may find themselves feeling a bit sick to the stomach. If they need to throw up, better to do so in a bucket than on the deck.

For some unscrupulous players, they may find a use for these contents rather than just throwing them overboard. A splash to the face of an enemy can blind them for a few moments and leave them thoroughly disgusted, or it can be used as a friendly and unsavory prank for one of your fellow crewmates.

2 Skeleton Crews Don't Carry Buckets

Sea of Thieves Skeleton Ship

There are dozens if not hundreds of ships resting upon the seafloor. They've gone down while their crews plied their trade across the Sea of Thieves. Occasionally, these ships will rise up once more, bent on taking their revenge upon the living.

Fighting these skeleton ships adds excitement to players making long voyages, but there is a trick for taking them down that involves cannons. Should players get their ship close enough, they can use buckets of water to fill the skeleton ship. Skeletons will patch holes, but they won't bail water. Once their ship is full, they'll return to the bottom of the sea once more.

1 There's A Book Based On The Game

While Sea of Thieves may have received mixed reviews upon release, subsequent updates have made huge improvements to the game and it's more popular now than ever. It's only natural that SoT would have some spin-off properties.

One spin-off is a book players can get their hands on in real-life is Tales From The Sea of Thieves, by Paul Davies. Another book, Sea of Thieves: Athena's Fortune by game designer Chris Allcock, is also available. Players looking to get into the lore have plenty to sink their teeth into.
