Gina Carano in "Fast & Furious 6"

Gina Carano, the MMA fighter turned star of "Haywire" and "Fast & Furious 6," has teamed with Rob Liefeld to develop his Maximum Press character Avengelyne for film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the duo is "rebuilding and reconceiving" the property into a starring vehicle for Carano that's likened to the "Underworld" franchise. A search will begin for a screenwriter next week.

Debuting in 1995, Avengelyne was the most feared angel in Heaven's Warhost until she was banished after being tricked into questioning God's love for humanity. Despite her exile on Earth, she continued to fight evil while searching for the person who holds the key to saving mankind from demons.

Avengelyne, who appeared in numerous miniseries and crossovers from Maximum Press and Avatar Press, was resurrected most recently in 2011 at Image Comics.

Carano and Liefeld will appear Saturday at Comic-Con International in San Diego to sign posters featuring the actress as Avengelyne.
