The teaser was shown at the end of the Star Trek 50th Anniversary panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego, moderated by "Star Trek: Discovery" showrunner Bryan Fuller. Star Trek veterans William Shatner, Brent Spiner, Jeri Ryan, Michael Dorn and Scott Bakula also appeared at the panel.
During the session, Fuller told the crowd that the new Star Trek series would carry on in franchise tradition and "continue to be progressive," telling the "adventure of humankind." Following similar statements in earlier interviews, he said the show will be "telling stories like a novel," rather than the more episodic nature of past series.
