During The New Mutants panel at Comic-Con@Home, it was revealed that the long-delayed film will maintain its Aug. 28 release date, despite the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. What's more, some fans will even get a chance to see the X-Men spinoff early.

Those hoping to catch an early screening of The New Mutants can tweet #NewMutantsComicConAtHome with #NewMutantsScreeningSweepstakes. "Wear a mask," director Josh Boone joked, adding "You might just get to see it finally."

The New Mutants was originally slated to arrive in theaters April 13, 2018, before being bumped to Feb. 22, 2019, Aug. 2, 2019 and April 3, 2020. Then, due to the pandemic, the film was pushed to its current release date of Aug. 28.

In May, a pre-order link for The New Mutants appeared on Amazon, leading many to believe the film was destined for a premium video on demand release instead of a theatrical one. However, the link was swiftly removed.

Directed and co-written by Josh Boone, The New Mutants stars Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin/Magik, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar/Mirage and Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
