SDCC | MTV to debut mtvU Fandom Awards at Comic-Con

MTV is returning to San Diego for Comic-Con International, and it's bringing Linkin Park along.

The rock band will headline the inaugural mtvU Fandom Awards and MTV Fan Fest, to be held Thursday, July 24 -- the first day of Comic-Con -- at San Diego's Petco Park. Both events will be open to convention badge holders. MTV and mtvU will air a one-hour special with highlights of the events on Sunday, July 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

According to MTV Networks, the mtvU Fandom Awards "honor diehard fangirls and fanboys as well as their favorite shows and movies." Categories and nominations will be announced later.

“The mtvU Fandom Awards will reinvent the traditional award show format,” executive producer Ryan Kroft said in a statement. “In addition to handing out trophies, we will recognize the achievements of fans and their favorite obsessions with special surprises and experiences. It’s the perfect event to reward the fans at Comic-Con, the epicenter of all fandoms.”

Last year, MTV staged MTV2 Party in the Park, which featured food, drinks, a Ferris wheel, autograph signings by the cast of Teen Wolf, and music from Dillon Francis and New Politics.
