SDCC: 'Godzilla: Resurgence' to Stomp Into American Theaters

Funimation has acquired the distribution rights to "Shin Godzilla," aka "Godzilla: Resurgence," throughout the Americas. The upcoming live-action reboot of the iconic Japanese franchise is targeted for theatrical release late this year.

The 29th Godzilla film produced by Toho Productions -- and its first installment in more than a decade -- “Resurgence” is co-directed by Hideaki Anno (“Neon Genesis Evangelion”) and Shinji Higuchi (“Attack on Titan”). It’s expected to feature the tallest Godzilla yet, towering over the 108-meter creature depicted in Gareth Edwards’ 2014 U.S. film.

"'Shin Godzilla' represents a brand new chapter in the 62-year history of this iconic science fiction monster," said Mike DuBoise, executive vice president and COO of Funimation, said in a statement. "We're excited to bring audiences this new vision of Godzilla from Toho as reimagined by directors Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi."
