With a 2018 release date set, the creative team behind the “Ant-Man” sequel “Ant-Man and the Wasp” has now been locked in. A report from Deadline confirms what returning director Peyton Reed told CBR News earlier this week — Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari will help write “Ant Man and the Wasp” for Marvel Studios.
Barrer and Ferrari previously did six months of uncredited writing work on “Ant-Man,” and they are expected to break the story for the sequel along with star Paul Rudd and Adam McKay. Rudd and McKay also worked on the script for “Ant-Man.” Deadline adds that once the story is broken out, Barrer and Ferrari will work with Rudd on the script.
Reed discussed this development, as well as McKay’s potential involvement, with CBR. “Well, definitely, Paul [Rudd is returning], and we’ve got [Andrew] Barrer and [Gabriel] Ferrari, who were not credited on the movie, but they’re our production writers, they’re coming back. And Adam [McKay]’s going to come back in some capacity. A lot of it has to do with his schedule on ‘The Big Short’ because he’s promoting that movie and is probably, I would think, well into the Oscar season. I went to one of the first screenings of Adam’s movie, and, of course, I loved the movie. I thought it was amazing. But, of course, we talked about ‘Ant-Man,’ and he’s psyched to come back. We want him back. It’s going to be a scheduling thing.”
“Ant-Man and the Wasp” opens on July 6, 2018.
