Scream: The TV Series writer Jill Blotevogel is headed to Skybound's Afterschool #3 alongside artist Marley Zarcone.
CBR can exclusively reveal that Blotevogel is one of the creators behind the upcoming Skybound Presents Afterschool #3, which releases in August. Joining Blotevogel for the issue are Zarcone (Shade, the Changing Girl), colorist Giovanna Niro (Two Moons, Summoner's War: Legacy) and letterer Pat Brosseau (Birthright, Manifest Destiny). CBR can also reveal the cover for Skybound #3, which comes from artist Veronica Fish (Archie, Sabrina the Teenage Witch).
Afterschool is a new horror anthology miniseries aiming to teach teenagers cautionary tales their parents may have been too scared to talk about. Launching in June, each issue pairs television and film writers with comics artists to deliver an unsettling and one-of-a-kind lesson. The synopsis for Afterschool #3 reads, "An annoying younger sister doesn’t begin to explain Leda’s situation. Living with Izzy means perpetual chaos—firecrackers, pranks, and zero privacy. But when a killer breaks into their home, Izzy might just be their best defense."
Blotevogel wrote and developed a number of episodes for MTV's Scream: The TV Series, which is based on the film series of the same name initially created by Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson in 1996, from 2015 to 2019. She also wrote two episodes of 2002's Twilight Zone reboot, two episodes of ABC Family's Ravenswood and more. She penned two episodes of Shining Vale, which recently finished its first season on Starz. "Children are pretty much sociopaths until we teach them civility," Blotevogel said. "I’ve always loved the idea of crafting a darker, bloodier Home Alone about a wild child-sociopath having to defend her home against a killer-psychopath. Afterschool’s mandate pushed me to create a sibling relationship between teen Leda and young Izzy that gives the primal battle real emotional stakes."
Blotevogel and the rest of the Afterschool #3 creative team join an impressive roster of talent for the miniseries. The first issue, which tells the tale of an emotional support dog with a killer secret, releases on June 8 and comes from Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (Marvel's Moon Knight), along with Greg Hinkle (Radio Spaceman). Other contributors to Afterschool include Kate Herron (Marvel's Loki, Sex Education), Briony Redman (Point Brec), Leila Leiz (M.O.M.: Mother of Madness, Horde) and Leon Hendrix III (Two Sentence Horror Stories, Mayor of Kingstown).
Skybound Presents Afterschool #3 releases at comic book shops and digital platforms -- including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology and Google Play -- on Aug. 17.
