The official Scream Twitter account posted a video today reminding fans that the upcoming fifth installment of the Scream series will be released in exactly one year, Jan. 14, 2022.The short clip features a slow zoom-in on the franchise's iconic killer Ghostface with the words "ONE YEAR" as the release date fades into view. The caption of the post reads, "In ONE YEAR, I'll know where to find you." Scream’s Twitter shared another image in December 2020 to tease the upcoming horror film; the image is of the bloody knife that Ghostface uses in their killings with a caption that reads, "There were only a few drops of [blood] to clean up on set," as well as a humorous disclaimer that the caption was "false and misleading."RELATED: Neve Campbell Explains Why She Returned For Scream 5The fifth Scream film – simply titled Scream – is the first in the franchise not to be directed by Wes Craven, who died in August 2015. Often called the "Master of Horror," the director helmed famous scary movies such as A Nightmare on Elm Street and Shocker. The returning cast members paid tribute to Craven over the last few months of filming. David Arquette revealed he would listen to Craven's favorite songs on set and said that he had "been having a really hard time lately with missing him." Upon wrapping filming, Courteney Cox shared a picture of her and Craven on the set of the first Scream film with the caption, "This all started 25 years ago directed by the beloved Wes Craven." The new film is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

Scream was initially supposed to begin filming in May 2020 but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production instead began on Sept. 22, although three crew members tested positive for COVID-19 at the end of that same week. Regardless, production continued the following Monday because a pod system had been organized before filming to prevent pandemic disruptions. The picture wrapped filming on Nov. 18, 2020 and celebrated by sharing the official title.

Scream will see the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, David Arquette as Dewey Riley, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and Marley Shelton as Deputy Judy Hicks. Cast newcomers include Jack Quaid, Dylan Minnette, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on Jan. 14, 2022.
