A clip titled "Meet The New Blood" introduces audiences to new characters in the Scream franchise, while establishing the returning trio with behind-the-scenes interviews and fresh looks at the upcoming film.

Posted to YouTube as part of the 12 Screams for the Holidays promotion, the clip packs a lot of information into just over a minute and a half. "This feels like coming back to the first Scream," Neve Campbell, who has played Sidney Prescott in every entry in the franchise, says to start off. "It's fun to get into it again."

The new cast is introduced in a scene that will look very familiar to fans of the films, as they discuss Ghostface's return and crack jokes about each other while sitting near a school. Courteney Cox and David Arquette, who have also played Gale and Dewey in each film, share praise for the newcomers' dedication, and then the new blood is introduced.

Melissa Barrera's Sam Carpenter, Jack Quaid's Richie Kirsch, Dylan Minnette's Wes Hicks and Jasmin Savoy Brown's Mindy Meeks-Martin are all featured, with each actor sharing a little insight while their characters have some questionable moments. Sam gets a call from the Ghostface Killer saying he knows her "little secret," Mindy discusses her potential motive for being the killer and each of the actors have clear enthusiasm for their roles and the story. "The adrenaline, it's insane," says Barrera.

The franchise got its start back in 1996 with Wes Craven's first Scream, and the reboot takes place 25 years later. While this clip offers some hints and clues, it's also in keeping with the tradition of misdirection that the franchise has established. And, like the scene set in front of the school with the new characters, there will be plenty of nods to the preceding Scream films. "As deep, deep fans of the original four [films], we took pains to populate the world of this movie and certainly the materials with as many fun nods and Easter eggs and misdirects as possible," said co-director Tyler Gillet in a recent interview.

This will be the first Scream film not directed by Wes Craven, who passed away in 2015. Gillet is joined by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin in the director's chair for the relaunch. The pair previously co-directed the 2019 comedy horror film Ready or Not.

Scream is set for a Jan. 14 release.
