Scream VI will change some rules. From a change in scenery bringing the audience and remaining characters out of Woodsboro and into the Big Apple to Jenna Ortega teasing more gore and Ghostface's new weaponry, there's much for fans to be excited about. And with the excitement comes new theories, and one of these brings Stu Macher and his family into the limelight.

The Scream VI Trailer Teases a Connection to Stu Macher

Fans have been quick to point out many connections to the original Ghostface killer displayed throughout the Scream VI trailer. For starters, people have noticed the worn and aged condition of the iconic white mask. That would align with the age of Stu and represent the years that passed since he graced the big screen. Aside from this, the Ghostface Shrine in the trailer also features many objects related to Stu.

Most of the objects in the Shrine relate to the Ghostface killings, whether it be weapons used in specific murders or the clothes worn by the victims when they died. With that said, only one of Stu's objects is relevant to his supposed and debated death -- the TV that supposedly crushed his head.

Another significant part of the trailer occurs when Ghostface taunts Courtney Cox's Gale Weathers. As they stand across from each other, the killer raises their knife and slowly drags their gloved hand across the weapon, wiping the blood away. Such an action raises massive red flags for fans of the Scream franchise, as this action is used during the original Woodsboro Massacre in the first Scream film. Of course, this is a Stu signature. While there's always the possibility that this move is purely coincidental, it's hard not to consider this connection.

The Macher Family Could Be a Problem For the Woodsboro Survivors

Over the years, there have been theories that Stu is still alive, but this new idea takes things to another level. Essentially, the theory states that after the Woodsboro Massacre, Stu's parents used their wealth and social status to buy his freedom. After his grand escape, Stu moved to New York City and started a Ghostface Cult. This cult is responsible for the rest of the masked killers and could even be behind the Shrine featured in the Scream VI trailer. That would explain Amber Freeman's ability to convince her family to move into the Macher home, which was well-documented as the site of the Woodsboro Massacre.

Another direction Scream VI could go still includes the Macher family. Instead of Stu, the focus would be on his older sister, Leslie Macher. Her most likely motive would relate to Scream 2 and that film's Ghostface mastermind, Mrs. Loomis. She dons the mask and robe to avenge the death of her beloved son, Billy. Unfortunately, Leslie Macher would have a similar motive, as her son, Vince, is murdered in Scream (2022). She could want revenge on Sam Carpenter for her indirect involvement in Vince's death or her relationship with Billy Loomis, the one that got her baby brother into trouble in the first place.

Scream VI's release is looming. With very few details released about the film, there's plenty of room for fans to speculate. The recent trailer narrows down some possibilities, but fans must remember a franchise tradition: there's never just one Ghostface.

To see Ghostface potentially cross paths with the Macher family, Scream VI slashes into theaters Mar. 10.
