The following contains spoilers for Scream VI, now playing in theaters.
Scream VI has hit theaters much to the delight of horror fans. Known for its iconic robed villain with a ghost mask, the Scream franchise is chock-full of inventive, memorable kills, and Scream VI is no exception.
Scream VI follows Melissa Barrera's Sam Carpenter, her younger sister Tara (portrayed by Jenna Ortega), Chad Meeks-Martin and his sister Mindy after Ghostface's rampage in Woodsboro. The four survivors now live in New York City in an attempt to start fresh. But the past soon comes back to haunt them. Despite the "core four" being surprisingly resistant to stab wounds, Scream VI nevertheless racks up quite the kill count.
12. Brooks' Death Is a Mystery
The death of Brooks, Gale Weathers' boyfriend, happens off-screen and leads to an intense face-off between Gale and Ghostface. While Gale is in her apartment, she receives a call from Ghostface, who taunts her about the death of Dewey Riley. As Gale's back is turned, Ghostface stealthily seizes Brooks and kills him. Ghostface then throws Brooks' corpse through the window before attacking Gale. The scene is less about Brooks' death and more about the resulting confrontation between Gale and Ghostface.
11. Ghostface Spooks Sam and Company With the Corpse of Paul
Ghostface breaks into Sam's apartment and attacks her and her friends. They flee upstairs and barricade themselves in Quinn's room. Mindy goes into Quinn's bathroom only to walk in on a literal bloodbath. The dead body of Paul, Quinn's hookup, lay contorted in the bathtub, giving Mindy a scare. Like Brooks, Paul gets killed off-screen, and audiences only get to see the aftermath of his death.
10. Ghostface Chops Greg Up
Greg is Jason Carvey's friend and partner in crime. They are both horror movie fanatics, and they want to kill the Carpenter sisters in order to finish the movie that Richie Kirsch -- the Ghostface of Scream (2022) -- was making before Sam killed him. Ghostface kills Greg off-screen before dismembering his body and placing it in Jason's fridge. The sight of Greg's mutilated body is disturbing, but the fact that his death happens off-screen makes this kill inferior to many of the others in Scream VI.
9. Quinn Bailey Gets It Right Between the Eyes
Quinn Bailey is introduced as Sam and Tara's fun-loving, sex-positive roommate. When Ghostface enters their apartment, Quinn gets "killed" off-screen. It's revealed at the climax that Quinn faked her death so that she could continue to be Ghostface without being suspected. Quinn is out to avenge the death of her brother Richie, who was killed by Sam in Scream (2022). Tara hits Quinn in the face with a brick, knocking some of her teeth out, and Sam finishes Quinn off by shooting her in the forehead.
8. Ghostface Ruins the Cashier's Day
Sam and Tara have their first run-in with Ghostface in Scream VI on their way to the police station. They run into a bodega to get help. After a no-nonsense bystander confronts Ghostface and gets killed, the cashier grabs his shotgun and shoots at Ghostface but misses. Ghostface sneaks up behind the cashier, stabs him in the shoulder and knocks him to the floor. The cashier then gets blasted with his own shotgun by Ghostface.
7. Ghostface Gets the Best of the Tough, Bearded Man
Ghostface attacks Sam and Tara, prompting the sisters to flee into a convenience store. As the panicked women try to tell the cashier about their attacker, a bald man with a beard gets annoyed with them for cutting the line until Ghostface enters the store. Unfazed by Ghostface's scary costume, the man with the beard gets in his face and says, "You got a problem here, guy?" Ghostface responds by slashing at him and slitting his throat. What started out as a simple trip to the store turned deadly for the bearded man.
6. Jason Carvey Meets His Maker
Jason Carvey is the Ghostface that kills film professor Laura Crane at the beginning of Scream VI. He kills her to satisfy his bloodlust and to exact revenge on her for giving him a C- on a project. He also plans to kill Sam and Tara in order to finish the film that Richie Kirsch started. After returning to his apartment, Jason receives a call from who he thinks is Greg, his roommate, who also wants to kill the Carpenter sisters. "Greg" engages Jason in a game of Hot and Cold, leading him to the fridge, which contains Greg's dismembered body. Ghostface then kills Jason by repeatedly stabbing him in the stomach. Not only is his death gruesome, but the scene leading up to it is suspenseful and unsettling. However, the fact that Jason is an unsympathetic character reduces the brutality of his demise.
5. Detective Wayne Bailey Gets What's Coming to Him
Wayne Bailey is an NYPD detective and Quinn's father. He is revealed to be the mastermind behind the murders in Scream VI, with Quinn and Ethan as his co-conspirators. He wants to get revenge on the Carpenter sisters for killing his son, Richie. During the final showdown, Wayne falls off a balcony during a scuffle with Sam and gets knocked unconscious. When he regains consciousness, he receives a call from Sam, who has donned Billy Loomis' Ghostface mask and robe. She then stabs Wayne in the chest until he's a bloody mess before stabbing him right in the eye, making for a very raw kill.
4. Ethan Landry Gets the TV
Ethan Landry is introduced as Chad's socially awkward roommate who hovers on the outskirts of Sam's social circle. Sam and company soon suspect that Ethan is Ghostface, and in the end, they are revealed to be right. Ethan is on a quest to avenge his brother Richie, who was killed by Sam, and he is in cahoots with Wayne and Quinn. During the climax, Tara stabs him in the mouth, which seems to kill him. As Sam and Tara are having a heart-to-heart, Ethan somehow manages to recover. Just before he's about to attack them, Kirby Reed smashes his head with a TV in a unique and ironic kill.
3. Dr. Christopher Stone Meets an Unfortunate End
Dr. Christopher Stone is Sam's therapist. He becomes uncomfortable with Sam one session when she reveals that killing Richie "felt right." The next morning, Dr. Stone gets a knock at his door, and he sees the outline of a hooded figure standing outside. Ghostface then bursts through the glass and grabs Dr. Stone before bashing his head into the door and stabbing him in the nose. The death may be quick, but it's still quite ghastly. The use of the door as a weapon before Dr. Stone gets the knife plunged into his face also helps distinguish this kill from the rest in Scream VI.
2. Ghostface Slaughters Laura Crane
Laura Crane is a film professor at Blackmore University. Audiences are introduced to her while she is at a restaurant waiting for a date to show up. Her date admits that he's lost, and Laura steps outside the restaurant to look for him. He says that he's on the other end of the adjacent alley. When he claims that someone is following him, Laura falls for it and runs down the alley, only for Ghostface to sneak up on her and repeatedly stab her in the chest. Ghostface pulls his mask off and reveals himself to be Jason Carvey, one of Laura's students. The realism of Laura's death, along with the relatable circumstances of a date gone wrong, makes this a disturbing kill. To top it off, Laura (played by Samara Weaving) is a charming character, which makes her death even harder to watch.
1. Ghostface Does a Number on Anika Kayoko
Anika Kayoko is Mindy's girlfriend. Ghostface attacks Sam and her friends while they are at her apartment, and Anika nearly gets disemboweled. They then barricade themselves in Quinn's room, and Danny, who lives in the apartment across from Sam, slides a ladder to the window so that they can cross over before Ghostface breaks down the door. Anika volunteers to be the last one to cross as she fears that her stomach wound will slow the rest of them down. Ghostface manages to break down the door as Anika is on the ladder. He shakes the ladder, causing Anika to fall and bash her head on the dumpster below. On top of the sheer gruesomeness of her death, Anika proves herself to be kind, protective and witty, and some audience members may have grown attached to her as a result. The ghastly nature of her death, coupled with her likability, makes hers the most brutal kill in Scream VI.
To watch Ghostface's new reign of terror, Scream VI is now playing in theaters.
