Campbell also revealed the two filmmakers wrote her a touching letter about horror film director, writer and producer Wes Craven, who passed away in 2015 just four weeks after his 76th birthday. The letter spoke of their view of Craven as an inspiration and how much they wanted to honor him with the new film.

Of the Scream franchise, Campbell says she is grateful and always looks forward to stepping back into the shoes of Sidney Prescott.

Bettinelli-Oplin and Gillett's most recent film Ready or Not was Certified Fresh by Rotten Tomatoes, earning an 88% rating from critics.
