Courteney Cox took to Instagram to celebrate the end of filming for the fifth installment of the Scream franchise and to pay tribute to the late horror legend, Wes Craven.

"Scream just wrapped. This all started 25 years ago directed by the beloved Wes Craven," Cox captioned an old photo of herself posing with the director.

"Walking back on the set 25 years later, I wasn’t sure what to expect. What I found were an incredible new cast and two uber-talented directors." She continued, "I'm sure Wes will be so proud. Thank you @kevwilliamson for creating this legacy."

Craven directed the first four films in the Scream franchise, which was created by Kevin Williamson. Craven passed away in 2015 just four weeks after his 76th birthday. The latest installment -- which recently wrapped principal photography despite production delays due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic -- is being helmed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Williamson, who also served as executive producer, announced the film's title and shared behind the scenes photos across social media on Nov. 18. He also said in the post that "Wes would’ve been so proud of the film that Matt and Tyler are making."

While few details have been revealed about the Scream plot, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillet previously said the fifth installment will serve as a sequel and not a franchise reboot.

"It felt like the only way to do this right was to create connectivity. And a lot of it is also just what the Scream movies are, right? They're about lineage," Gillet said at the time. "They're about the evolution of pop culture and the evolution of the genre. And you can’t have something new without also giving a nod to what came before it."

David Arquette, who portrays Woodsboro Sheriff Dwight "Dewey" Riley in the franchise, also recently opened up about feeling Craven's absence while working on the film. Specifically, the actor would honor Craven by listening to his favorite songs in between sets and by looking back on memories by revisiting the director's old Twitter account.

Directed by Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett, Scream stars Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Jack Quaid, Marley Shelton, Dylan Minnette, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. The film arrives in theaters on Jan. 14, 2022.
