The DC Universe is about to be a good place to be a bad guy. In May, DC will kick off "Year of the Villain" with a one-shot that sees Lex Luthor launch his master plan to topple the Justice League for good and establish the Legion of Doom as the masters of the DC Universe.

In a blockbuster Justice League run with artists like Jorge Jimenez and Jim Cheung, writers Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV have been laying the groundwork for this massive initiative by introducing Luthor's new Legion of Doom and the ancient cosmic force Perpetua. In an expansive new interview with Adventures in Poor Taste! Comics Podcast, Snyder explained how Justice League will feed into "Year of the Villain."

"'The Year of the Villain' is a big crescendo of stuff, but that leads to even bigger consequences," Snyder said. "And a lot of that is built out of the DNA of the Justice League story we're telling."

He also said that the story will tie narrative threads together from several major DC titles including, Justice League Dark, Justice League Odyssey, The Batman Who Laughs, Superman and Batman.

"Every villain across the DCU will get the opportunity to play into [Luthor's] plan," Snyder added.

Drawing a comparison to the way that "Death of the Family" played out across Batman-related titles in 2012 and 2013, he said that Year of the Villain will gives each DC title "a prompt that can be used or not used" to "elevate" the stories they were already telling.

"It doesn't pit everybody against Luthor or anything like that," Snyder explained. "It pits every hero against a villain of the creators' choosing [in each series] in a way that is going to give you a big summer, fun blowout for your character.”

The Dark Nights: Metal writer went on to say that the end of "Year of the Villain" would culminate with a "cataclysmic" ending in Justice League that could lead to the next major DC crossover in 2020, if all goes well and the story proves popular with fans.

"I hear people saying 'Metal 2.' I hear people saying 'Crisis.' I won't give anything away," he said, "But it's that sort of seismic giant thing."

In the meantime, the build-up to "Year of the Villain" will continue across the DC Universe and in Justice League #20, by Scott Snyder and Jorge Jimenez, on sale March 20. "Year of the Villain" will kick off in DC's Year of the Villain,a 25-cent special featuring stories by Scott Snyder, Jim Cheung, James Tynion IV, Brian Michael Bendis, Alex Maleev and Francis Manapul, on sale May 1.
