Scott Snyder has announced that he will be reducing his role in DC Comics' mainstream line. The Dark Nights: Death Metal writer says that he wants to focus on more creator-owned projects, as his exclusive contract with DC expired last year.

"I'm not leaving superheroes, but I need to start working on more of my own stuff," Snyder stated in an interview. He explained that he continues to be associated with DC but does not currently have as much in the way of major work. He added, "I want to give other people a chance with the big stuff at DC. And to be perfectly frank, there's a lot I want to do outside of superhero comics."

Snyder said that he did plan to work with Greg Capullo and Rafael Alberquerque on future projects, alongside several of his artistic collaborators. He also said he wanted to do more non-canon projects in the DC Universe. "I feel sometimes at this point… I want to do more things like Batman: Last Knight on Earth. Things that don't take oxygen from the main line."

In addition to Snyder's DC work, he has also provided several creator-owned series for Image. This includes Wytches with Jock and Undiscovered Country, which he co-writes with Charles Soule.
